Steps Towards Racial Equity in Providence.
This month, the Racial and Environmental Justice Committee (REJ), supported by One Square World and partner organizations, wrapped up year one of Equity in Sustainability Providence, a citywide effort committed to achieving racial equity in sustainability management at the municipal level. The REJ Committee put forth their recommendations for a racially equitable and just Providence to Mayor Jorge Elorza and the Environmental Sustainability Task Force on August 22nd. The full recommendations can be found here.
As we embark on year two, the committee brings with it all the knowledge gathered from a year of collaboration, community research, and dialogue. In the next year, we will be working alongside the committee to identify strategies and governance processes to align around the principles and values developed in year 1.

Storytelling for Social Change - Boston
One Square World had the pleasure of co-hosting an introductory session of the Million Person Project's Storytelling for Social Change Workshop in Boston this August. Co-founder Julian Mocine-Mcqueen provided the group with tools to create an effective and authentic narrative for creating social change. Participants included senior fellows of the Environmental Leadership Program, members of the Evolutionary Leadership cohort.

Boston Stands Up Against White Supremacy.
On August 19, days after the Charlottesville attack, One Square World followed the leadership of Boston's Black Lives Matter chapter to denounce bigotry and racism. Together that day, the people of Boston sent a message that love is greater than hate. As the country, and the City of Boston in particular, continues to confront discrimination and racial violence, we will continue our fiscal sponsorship of Boston's local Black Lives Matter chapter as part of our holistic effort to undo racism in our communities.
